The Subaru Outback is often praised for its unique capabilities: It has always run on a flat-four engine with enough power to provide good acceleration, and it is the only midsize crossover with standard all-wheel drive for ultimate all-weather drivability. Less heralded, however, are its interior and exterior features, which also deserve highlighting.

Exterior Design

Riding on large, 17-inch alloy wheels, the Subaru Outback is led by headlights that feature LEDs for superb brightness and longevity. Integrated into the headlights are LED daytime running lights, which turn on when you drive to make pedestrians and other drivers aware of your presence.

The front doors bear black-finished side mirrors that can be folded to prevent damage to them. Roof rails adorn the top to load cargo for outdoor adventuring. And a wiper keeps the rear window clean of rain and dirt so that your rear view is not hindered.

Keyless entry makes it easy for you to gain access to the cabin, which provides two cloth-trimmed rows of seats for up to five people. With up to 109 cubic feet of passenger volume, the cabin is spacious and comfortable, and you can fold down the rear seats to expand cargo space from the liftgate to the front seats for a max of 75.7 cubic feet.

Technology and Infotainment

Most compact crossovers don’t have a dual-screen system for infotainment, but that’s what you get on the Subaru Outback. Each display, which is an LCD touchscreen, measure seven inches diagonally. They form the interface of Subaru’s Starlink infotainment integration, which includes:

  • Four-speaker AM/FM stereo system
  • Bluetooth® hands-free phone calling and audio streaming
  • Smartphone integration with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®
  • Two USB ports and an audio jack for hooking up smartphones
  • Hands-free text messaging capability

The rearview camera uses the display system to produce video for monitoring your driving in reverse. And Starlink enables you to use cloud-based apps for a variety of functions: from looking up the reviews of a potential place to have lunch to seeking directions to your point of interest.
